After losing her Guesthouse in the 2010 Earthquake, Gertrude was able to make her home within the confines of one of the orphanage buildings that she set up and manages. Gertrude gives all her time and energy in looking after around 30 young children who have been abandoned and orphaned. Many of these children have severe disabilities.
People against Poverty was able to raise over £12,000 in January 2010 after hearing of the disastrous news of Gertrude's home and the damage to the orphanages. The funds quickly reached the project where builders were set to work in getting the orphanages back up and running. Within 3 months the children were able to quickly move back into their home after spending several weeks under tarpauling, surviving the torrential rains. We were also able to purchase a piece of land at the back of the orphanages which will enable dormitories for the chlidren to be built.
Day by day Gertrude is approached by someone to take their child because of the poverty within her country. Unfortunately she has no room and no funds to be able to help these unfortunate beautiful children.
The ongoing costs for the project vary each month, but here is what is currently needed on a regular basis:
Food for the children, clothing, nappies for the younger children, medication which helps the children keep free from illnesses that surround the ailing country e.g. cholera, meningitis. Without these basic necessities Gertrude will be unable to help the young children in her care. If you would like to make a general donation to help Gertrude in the running of the orphanges then you can make your general donation here. If you would like to support the project on a longer term basis, then please do consider setting up a direct debit.
