2013 sees the beginning of a new project in Nepal. Working with our Project Leader Krishna we will be opening the Starlight Centre in Kathmandu. This will be modelled on the extremely successful community hub The Way of Joy in Romania. Children will come for a weekly communal meal then stay to play and learn basic social skills all of which will eventually help them integrate back into society. 

The Starlight Centre is just another exciting milestone in what has been Krishna’s own personal journey to help those children that his society rejects. It all started one night in 2001 with a dream. He was surrounded by many children and had the sole responsibility of taking care of them all. When he tried to share his dream with his wife Sita she wouldn’t let him finish and instead started to tell him of her own dream, it was exactly the same!  

Their journey has not been an easy one and it has cost them everything they have but Krishna and Sita are resolute in their commitment. It was in part this determination and faith that led us to partner them in 2006 and begin our Child Sponsorship programme, which today takes care of 27 children.  

Our own financial circumstances have meant that until now we have been unable to commit to anything other than the Child Sponsorship scheme. 2013 is the beginning of something very exciting for us here at People against Poverty, Krishna, Sita and most importantly the children in Nepal.
